Meet Dr. Kate Marshall, MD

Training 

Dr. Marshall is double board-certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine . She received her medical doctorate from Boston University.  She then completed her Internal Medicine training at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  UPENN is consistently ranked in the top 10 nationwide for internal medicine residency programs.  After becoming board-certified in Internal Medicine, she furthered her education by completing a one year fellowship solely dedicated to geriatric medicine at Carolinas Health Care System Blue Ridge in Morganton, NC.

Experience and Professionalism 

Since completing her fellowship in geriatric medicine in Morganton, NC, Dr. Marshall has served as an attending physician and Medical Director at skilled nursing and acute rehabilitation facilities in NC in several counties. She has experience providing primary care services in a clinic setting as well as the nursing home setting. She has developed protocols for diagnosing and managing Covid-19 outbreaks at skilled nursing facilities and is currently volunteering with the Buncombe County Health Department to vaccinate local citizens. Dr. Marshall has implemented quality improvement measures at skilled nursing facilities to promote understanding and discussion of advanced care planning measures and family participation in healthcare decisions of loved ones with dementia.

Dr. Marshall will strive to help you have the highest quality of life possible as well as promote and maintain your independence as long as you are able.  Dr. Marshall has particular areas of interest in osteoporosis, maintaining mobility, dementia and brain health optimization, as well as minimizing medication.  

Family Life 

Dr. Marshall grew up in New Jersey and enjoys visiting her parents there and spending time at the Jersey Shore.  Dr. Marshall is a mother to four beautiful children, who keep her young at heart.  Her wonderful husband, Dr. Ryan Marshall, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.  Dr. Marshall enjoys cooking while listening to podcasts, sharing lively dinners with her family, riding her Peloton, reading, hiking, and spending time at home or around Biltmore Lake with her children, husband, and dog

Meet Dr. Golnosh Sharafsaleh         MD, MS, AGSF, FAAFP

Training 

Dr. Sharafsaleh is double board-certified in geriatric medicine and family medicine.  She received her Master's of Science from the University of Utah in Gerontology.  She then received her medical doctorate from the Ross University School of Medicine. Her residency training in family practice was completed at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.  After becoming board-certified in Family Medicine, she furthered her education by completing a one year fellowship solely dedicated to geriatric medicine at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.

Experience and Professionalism 

Since completing her training, Dr. Sharafsaleh has been working as a primary care provider and as a geriatric consultant. She served on staff at Wake Forest Medical Center as a primary care physician and geriatrician for 3 years prior to becoming a fellowship program director at Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge in Morganton, NC.  While in Morganton for more than 5 years, Dr. Sharafsaleh trained physicians, such as Dr. Marshall, to become our nation's next geriatricians. As a fellowship program director, Dr. Sharafsaleh has been recognized as a leader in her field of training. She has been recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. In 2021 she was 1 of 15 geriatricians recognized nationally as an American Geriatric Society Fellow. The distinction of Fellow is awarded to members of the academy who have demonstrated a professional commitment to their specialty, contributed to the field of practice, and are dedicated to clinical care, education, research, and continuing professional development.

Dr. Sharafsaleh takes a holistic approach to care, ensuring that patients age well, remain independent, and maintain the highest quality of life possible. Dr. Sharafsaleh's areas of focus and interest in geriatric medicine include primary preventative care, multi-morbidity, frailty, polypharmacy and deprescribing, memory disorders, delirium prevention, and care. 

Family Life 

Dr. Sharafsaleh prides herself on living a balanced life.  Having grown up in Salt Lake City, Utah, she loves hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking. She is also a dedicated mother to three beautiful children ....and three dogs!
